The night was finally not too bad. The absence of noise from the road woke me up sometime without to know exactly where I was.

I started to cycle around 7.30am. The first 10km were easy… maybe a bit too easy as it let me think that I could cycle the 95km of the day in less time than I need to say it… I was wrong.
After those 10 first km, I’ve stopped by the road in a take away shop to have breakfast. Flat white and custard cake. I was still feeling hungry after that so I bought an extra small chicken sandwich to fill the belly up and an extra big chicken sandwich for later. Back on the road at about 9 I cycled at a good pace of 26km/h. Here, it’s mostly flat in comparison with the south Island.

But my body is a bit tired and I start soon to feel my both Achilles tendons, in addition my hands had never been that much numbs. I have to find a solution, I can’t keep stoping every ten meters. Everytime I get a chance to make some stretching I do. I changed a bit the position of my seat but it looks like it’s not perfect… I’ll figure this out during the next days.

While I was having a break and finduring out where I was going to camp tonight, I got the idea to check on warm showers if there is someone living in Whanganui area. I found Ann and John profile. I sent them a request and John called me one hour later to let me know the address.

Even if I was sore on both legs and hands I kept a good pace. I reached a road side stop area just 20km from Whanganui at 1.45pm and decided to have a short break. I laid down the bench of the picnic table and felt asleep. When I woke up, Two hours were gone and I decided to keep going. The last 20km were a bit more difficult the precedent part as it was just hills going up and down.

I made it Ann and John at about 6pm. They are very lovely couple that used to travel in a bus around the world with their three daughters. I think we share a lot of common ideas about travel. The dinner was fantastic! Ann cooked a beautiful and delicious quiche with veggies and ham. The dessert was awesome as well!! Cake and custard with a bit of home made yoghurt on top!

This is my bed for the night! Thank you Ann and John

They are hosting Lion from Austria at the moment as well. Lion started to travel around NZ by bicycle but he preferred to swap for a 50cc scooter which is now broken and getting fixed in a garage.

We shared a lot of stories together about travels and inspiring people met on the way. I’m feeling so grateful to be able to meet amazing people all around NZ and soon the world.

Thank you ☺
