It’s been now a week that I’m stuck in Picton searching everyday for a sailing boat. I’ve contacted so many people and companies to find out if they know about any sailing boat coming or going in between the two islands. I might have missed something, as I didn’t find any yet. I’d like to believe there is a reason behind all of this but I definitely think that it is just as it is. No Sailing boats are crossing between the two islands during this time of the year.
Yesterday I decided to take a day off in my research and to go trying Picton’s cycle trails. There are some good trails in between Waikawa and Picton with beautiful views from the ridge. I’ve been enjoying sweating again after so long without being riding enough. I cycle daily from Waikawa to Picton but this is definitely too short.
Yesterday I’ve met Javier from Puerto Rico. He is such a charismatic bike tourer. He is cycling every year since 2007 and he is a great source of stories and advices. He limited his luggage to two panniers and a dry bag on top of them. No cooking gear, he is just eating oysters and mussels directly from the sea, sardines and beans in cans and One Square Meal twice a day. In addition, Wine and beer are the best after a big day of cycling. I hope to meet him longer on the North Island where he will come back later. Follow him on instagram @ocelaj
